Cracking Up (13/01/11)

RSS

Not me, the floor, in my bedroom, new year's eve. Was rooting around in my drawer looking for earplugs when CRACK!!, the floor moved and I thought I was about to fall through. So I leapt out to get the landlady and giggled in shock throughout most of our conversation.

Anyway, tis sorted now and there's no more danger of disappearing into the downstairs neighbour's kitchen or wherever, thank the Lord.

The new look Flat

So, tis the new year. Have got the flat pretty much sorted now and am enjoying living in an office-free space. Christmas was good but a bit wobbly. Enjoyed being at CFC for the day and celebrating with the kids. Missed friends and family back at home loads though. More than last year. Probably cos I know I'm here for a longer time.

Christmas @ CFC

Nipped down to Kampot with Sreyrohm for a few days after Christmas to stay at a guesthouse ("Utopia") owned by her friends, Lamhong and Seena. It was right by the river and we had a good time having BBQs on the home-made beach and just having a rest. Sreyrohm talked with her friends mostly, I slept mostly and we both came back glad of the break.

           Utopian view

Am re-doing language learning after the lesson from hell last week. Just me and a teacher firing out Khmer like a machine gun. Did my head in and had to ask her to stop in the end. Apparently that's the usual way of learning in that particular school. But it's not for me. Way too stressful and would be an ordeal rather than a joy and an expensive one at that.

Sooooooo, am arming myself  with a dictaphone and a dictionary and hanging out with Cambodian friends instead. Have an hour with Sreyrohm 3x a week  to ask questions about things I'm learning and get pronounciation right. But will gather words in a more informal way from now on.

The Love 146 puppet project's going well. Enjoying getting out and about visiting projects and setting things up for them to do the presentation. Which hopefully will happen early Feb and then I'll write up the report later in Feb. So it's coming together and is helping keep me focussed which is always good :-) Good for me anyway!

So life here is beginning to flow and am relaxing into it more. Starting a writers group tonight at Cafe Eden which am looking forward to. Don't think many are coming but prefer to start small anyway. Hopefully twill be good.

So, til next time, bye for now and Happy New Year!!
