From the VicarageJesus said, "I am the way, the truth and the life. No-one comes to the Father except through me." - The Bible
What an incredible, and by our standards, outrageous and politically incorrect thing to say. Jesus does not say that his way of living is a good way to live. He says that he is the way! He does not say that his insights about life are trustworthy. He says he is the truth itself! Life is incredibly confusing, without putting too fine a point on it, sometimes downright hard. We often feel the need to “get a life”! Paradoxically, Jesus said: “I am the life”.
Perhaps this is just the ravings of a lunatic. But “lunatic” is not the word that fits Jesus’ life. The sayings of Jesus are in fact pure genius expressed with utter simplicity. His life was totally unconfused and full of clarity and compassion. Actually, the financial crisis today is making people think that our world is about as mad as it can get. On our streets and in our homes the social fabric and the moral fibre is breaking down. We certainly do need to know THE way, THE truth and THE life.
