Evening Prayer

Normally at St. Paul's we meet on alternate Wednesdays in the church for an informal reading of Evening Prayer.
In the current Covid ircumstances, everyone is encouraged to read the prayers at home commencing at 7:30pm each Wednesday.

Do join with us if you can.

The opportunity to come before God quietly, at home, knowing that others are doing the same thing at the same time can be a real encouragement!

The words are set out below or you can download them here  >>

This page will be updated each week with the Bible readings and the Collect for you to use.
We are a loving, praying church and if you would like to be prayed for or have any prayer requests you are very welcome to contact us.

Wednesday 5th May at 7:30pm
Evening Prayer (at home)
If you can, join with us at home as we come before God.

Readings: Psalms 98, 99 & 100, Numbers Ch12 and Luke Ch5 v12-26.

Risen Christ,
your wounds declare your love for the world
and the wonder of your risen life:
give us compassion and courage
to risk ourselves for those we serve,
to the glory of God the Father.  Amen

Evening Prayer (Informal)
O worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness: let the whole earth stand in awe of him.

O Lord, open thou our lips
And our mouth shall shew forth thy praise.

O God, make speed to save us.
O Lord, make haste to help us.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son,
And to the Holy Ghost;

As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, World without end.  Amen.

Praise ye the Lord.
The Lord’s name be praised.

Old Testament Reading

New Testament Reading

This is the word of the Lord.
Thanks be to God.

The Apostles’ Creed
I believe in God the Father almighty,
Maker of heaven and earth:
And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord,
Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost,
Born of the Virgin Mary,
Suffered under Pontius Pilate,
Was crucified, dead, and buried.
He descended into hell;
The third day he rose again from the dead;
He ascended into heaven,
And sitteth on the right hand of God the Father almighty;
From thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Ghost;
The holy catholic Church;
The communion of saints;
The forgiveness of sins;
The resurrection of the body
And the life everlasting.  Amen.

Let us pray.
Lord, have mercy upon us.

Christ, have mercy upon us.
Lord, have mercy upon us.

Our Father, who art in heaven,
Hallowed be thy name;
Thy kingdom come;
Thy will be done,
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from evil.  Amen.

O Lord, shew thy mercy upon us.
And grant us thy salvation.

O Lord, save the Queen.
And mercifully hear us when we call upon thee.

Endue thy ministers with righteousness.
And make thy chosen people joyful.

O Lord, save thy people.
And bless thine inheritance.

Give peace in our time, O Lord.
Because there is none other that fighteth for us, but only thou, O God.

O God, make clean our hearts within us.
And take not thy Holy Spirit from us.

The Collect of the Day

Followed by:

Intercessory prayers for people and situations on our hearts …………………

Followed by:

Collect for Peace
O God, from whom all holy desires, all good counsels, and all just works do proceed;
Give unto thy servants that peace which the world cannot give;
That both, our hearts may be set to obey thy commandments, and also that, by thee,
We being defended from the fear of our enemies
May pass our time in rest and quietness;
Through the merits of Jesus Christ our Saviour.

The Collect for Aid against all Perils
Lighten our darkness, we beseech thee, O Lord;
And by thy great mercy defend us from all perils and dangers of this night;
For the love of thy only Son, our Saviour, Jesus Christ.

Prayers – A General Thanksgiving
Almighty God, Father of all mercies,
We thine unworthy servants do give thee most humble and hearty thanks
For all thy goodness and loving-kindness to us and to all men;
We bless thee for our creation, preservation, and all the blessings of this life;
But above all for thine inestimable love
In the redemption of the world by our Lord Jesus Christ,
For the means of grace, and for the hope of glory.
And we beseech thee, give us that due sense of all thy mercies,
That our hearts may be unfeignedly thankful,
And that we shew forth thy praise, not only with our lips,
But in our lives;
By giving up ourselves to thy service,
And by walking before thee in holiness and righteousness all our days;
Through Jesus Christ our Lord,
To whom with thee and the Holy Ghost
Be all honour and glory, world without end.

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ,
And the love of God,
And the fellowship of the Holy Ghost,
Be with us all evermore.
